The incessant internal wrangling between the royal princes and lawmakers in Ipetumodu in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State over removal of Apetu of Ipetumodu, Oba Joseph Oloyede, who was jailed in the United States, may be laid to rest soon as the state government, on Saturday, announced that it would take an action on the matter in no distant time.
The government said it had ordered the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Dosu Babatunde, to act promptly on the matter.
This was made known in a statement in Osogbo at the end of a state executive council meeting by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Hon. Kolapo Alimi.
It will be recalled that the move to dethrone the convicted monarch ended in a fiasco, as community princes and kingmakers nearly exchanged blows at a meeting held at the community palace last Tuesday.
At the meeting, the princes charged the community kingmakers to write a formal letter to the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to request for Oloyede’s removal and continue processes on who will become the next king of the town.
They also requested that the king should be dethroned while the stool should be declared vacant.
The demand was, however, turned down by the presiding high chief of the community, the Asalu of Ipetumodu, Chief Sunday Adedeji, who is the most senior surviving kingmaker.
The development, which degenerated into a furore among the attendees, led to some of them even threatening to exchange blows.
