FIFA Dismisses Nigeria’s Appeal Over DR Congo Player Eligibility, World Cup Qualification Hopes Fade

FIFA has officially dismissed Nigeria’s appeal concerning the eligibility of a Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) player in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, dealing a major blow to the Super Eagles’ hopes of qualifying for the tournament.
The appeal, which was submitted by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), challenged the participation of a DR Congo player during their qualifying encounter, alleging a breach of FIFA eligibility rules. However, after reviewing the case, FIFA ruled in favor of DR Congo, maintaining that no regulations were violated.
With the dismissal of the appeal, FIFA confirmed that the original result of the match remains unchanged. This decision effectively shuts the door on Nigeria’s chances of progressing through an administrative ruling, leaving qualification dependent solely on results on the pitch.
The ruling has sparked disappointment among Nigerian football fans, many of whom had hoped the appeal could revive the Super Eagles’ qualification campaign. Attention will now shift to rebuilding and preparing for future international competitions, as Nigeria looks to put the setback behind them.
