The Ogun State Police Command has foiled an alleged plot to kidnap a Chinese expatriate and demand a ransom of N50million, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
The suspects, identified as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were apprehended by operatives of the Obalende Division on Monday, June 9, 2026, along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway following credible intelligence received by the police.
According to preliminary investigations, Onwuemena allegedly used his position as an interpreter and driver to gain access to sensitive information that was intended to facilitate the planned abduction. Police authorities disclosed that the suspects were arrested before the plot could be executed.
The Command further revealed that a third suspect linked to the conspiracy remains at large, while efforts are ongoing to track and arrest the fleeing accomplice.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commending the swift action of the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, reiterated the importance of timely intelligence sharing and community cooperation in combating criminal activities across the state.
