A Google executive has made the assertion that the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence could potentially lead to its dominance over all human capabilities within the next decade.
Demis Hassabis, CEO of DeepMind at Google, expressed his belief on a recent episode of 60 Minutes that scientists are on track to develop Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) within the next five to ten years.
Hassabis anticipates that AGI will become ’embedded’ in daily life by 2035.’We will have a system that truly comprehends everything around you in nuanced and profound ways,’
Hassabis stated in an interview with 60 Minutes host Scott Pelley.
Hassabis predicts that AI will possess the same capabilities as humans by 2035 and foresees a ‘breakthrough in robotics,’ enabling robots to mimic human activity.
The AI expert acknowledged that current technology has not yet achieved ‘consciousness’ and noted the possibility that AI bots may eventually develop self-awareness.He added that if a machine becomes self-aware, humans may struggle to recognize it immediately.’
With machines – they’re running on silicon, so even if they exhibit the same behaviors and express the same sentiments, it doesn’t necessarily mean that this sensation of consciousness we experience is identical to what they will experience,’ Hassabis explained.
