The Lagos State inquest into the death of 26-year-old singer llerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, was adjourned today, Friday, with the coroner, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, stating that a verdict will be delivered at a later date.
At the sitting held at the Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu, the final witness, forensic pathologist Dr. Uwom Eze, who conducted a second autopsy on Mohbad, told the court there was no sign of hard drug use. Instead, the late artist was given regulated doses of antihistamines and painkillers, indicating he was in pain before his death.
Dr. Eze noted that the injection Mohbad received couldn’t be properly assessed due to a lack of information and the advanced decomposition of the body.
He described the injury on the singer’s arm as superficial, stating, “even a newborn wouldn’t die from it.”
While he couldn’t determine an exact cause of death, the pathologist said a severe and rapid allergic reaction to a substance administered by injection was a likely cause.
He also described the nurse’s handling of Mohbad as a possible “medical misadventure,” during questioning by the family’s lawyer, Wahab Shittu (SAN).
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, after receiving an injection at his Lekki home and later suffering a sudden convulsion.
